Flaky Pie Crust From Scratch
I absolutely love this pie crust made from scratch!
Growing up I was a huge fan the Pilsbury brand pie crust. If I didn’t have it in the house to make my pie then I would make a big deal about it and have to go to the store to get some.
I really could have just made this recipe at home in advance and it would have been even better:) With this recipe it’s just a few simple ingredients that mostly everyone has in there house. You don’t even need a mixer, it’s all done with your hands. Just put the ingredients in, combine it with your hands to form the dough and put it in the refrigerator covered for a minimum of 2 hours.
This may seem like a long wait time, but if you make it a couple days ahead of time it’s ok it taste the same. So that’s what I do. I make it 3-4 days ahead of time and then forget that I ever made it because it was so quick and it was 4days ago(who remembers anything that long ago). So when I go to make the crust it is already done for me just like I had bought it from the store lol. It is very versatile also I even make it for my chicken pot pie and it gets golden brown to perfection.
And just a QUICK TIP on making it that perfect golden brown color. Crack one egg into a bowl add a 1/2 tbsp of water(I normally just eye it#notabigdeal) mix it together with a fork or wisk. Then paint a generous layer of the mixture on the top of your crust with a pastry brush or channel your inner kid and do some finger painting. I also used this method on my apple galette :))
This crust is what I use in every pie! Like the one I will post in my next blog!
